In 2002, Oberholser was ranked 2nd at the top of the Nationwide Tour money list and earned a spot on the top PGA Tour. In his first three years playing on the PGA Tour, he played good enough to keep his card. In the years prior to that, his best result was second in the 2004 Wachovia Championship, which the winner was eliminated in a playoff. Then, in November of 2004, he was the winner of the Shinhan Korea Golf Championship, an PGA Tour sanctioned “Challenge Season” event.
Oberholser was born in San Luis Obispo, California. In 2007, he married golfer Angie Rizzo, whom he had met on a driving range. She cut short her playing career as a LPGA professional because of lingering effects of back injuries from a car crash.
