The big reveal Pretty Little Liars mid-season finale aired on Tuesday night sending fans into a whirl of suspense and excitement as the mystery surrounding ‘A’ finally came to and end.
Fans spent five and a half long dizzying seasons spent guessing who ‘A’ is, until show runner I. Marlene King finally gave us all the answer we’ve been waiting for. After making her last appearance in December last year, jaws dropped as CeCe Drake in true villain style slowly turned to face the camera kitted out in A’s classic black hoodie and gloves.
Cece’s heartfelt albeit chilling story of a girl wanting to be loved and accepted by her family unfolds during the course of the episode. Along with flashbacks to prior parts of the series as viewed from her point of view, it becomes clear why she tormented the four girls and threatened to spill their secrets, ultimately playing havoc with their lives.
While the episode was a blast of epic awesomeness including a well-deserved blow to Sarah’s face delivered by Emily, it shed light on a fair few mysteries that has seen fans baffled over the last five gripping years. The climax however, left fans quite divided with many taking to Twitter to express their disappointment, while others still feel there are a lot of unanswered questions.
Overall, the summer finale scored high ratings with 3.1 million viewers and takes fourth place in the list of most tweeted scripted TV shows, with season 4’s Now You See Me, Now You Don’t episode stealing first place. After skipping five years, the episode ended on a cliffhanger leaving viewers to wait until January to catch the mid-season premiere.
