One of MTV’s longest-running shows, The Challenge has been on the air since 1998.

In the years since it began, the show has hosted many triumphs, but also due to how long it’s run, many of the stars have passed away over the years.

Diem Brown joined The Challenge for its 12th season, but soon after she was confirmed to appear she was diagnosed with stage 2 ovarian cancer.

She decided to keep competing on the show anyway. “I knew that if cancer kept me from going, I’d be so depressed heading into treatment. My doctor gave me some rules, but he said I could do whatever I felt up for. I know it sounds cheesy, but I felt doing the show would give me the strength to get through cancer,” she told Glamour.

After treatment and a period of remission, Diem passed away at 34.

Former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Michelle Parma appeared on The Challenge back in 2001. Only a year after her appearance, she passed away during a tragic car accident on Interstate 45 when another driver crossed the median and struck her car head-on.

“Road Rules” executive producers released a statement that reads: “Michelle had a spirit about her that just pulled you in. She was one of the nicest, most genuine people to ever be on one of our reality shows. We will all miss her terribly.”
