Vanderpump Rules James Kennedy Says Hes Nine Months Sober After Sending Nasty, Drunken Texts

June 2024 · 2 minute read

Vanderpump Rules star James Kennedy got crazy drunk and sent his girlfriend Raquel Leviss a series of nasty texts during the most recent episode, which led her to give him an ultimatum. Now, Kennedy says that he has made a lot of big changes since he filmed that episode and Leviss is “so proud.”

ICYMI, both Kennedy and Leviss got blackout drunk separately during Tuesday’s episode of VPR, and Leviss left her phone in her purse. When she woke up, Leviss found “a million texts” from Kennedy waiting for her that called her a “whore” and “slut.” He also said that he hated his girlfriend and threatened to break up with her.

Kennedy defended his behavior by blaming Leviss for his actions, saying that her being MIA made him drink even more. He also claimed his British “tone” caused some miscommunication. However, Leviss wasn’t having it, and she told Kennedy that if he didn’t stop drinking their relationship was over.

Kennedy eventually agreed that he had to take the situation “seriously,” and promised to stop drinking and attend Al-Anon meetings with Leviss.

After the episode aired, Kennedy appeared on Watch What Happens Live and declared that he was now a completely different person. Kennedy explained he was “going onto nine months sober,” and because he hasn’t had a drink during that time he felt completely different compared to the person he saw on the episode.

“I have been to AA meetings and stuff since then and I’ve really taken hold of my life and try to change it for the better and change our relationship for the better,” said Kennedy. “I know I should be doing this for me, but I’m also doing it for my relationship with Raquel.”

Kennedy also made it clear that he wasn’t sneaking drinks like he has done in the past when he claimed to be sober. He admitted that he has lied and hidden alcohol, but this time he isn’t lying to himself or anyone else and it feels incredible.

Leviss also spoke up about the episode after it aired via an Instagram post. She said that she teared up watching it back because it was the exact moment that her relationship with James Kennedy took a turn for the better.

“I am not tolerating this behavior any longer and James’ decision to take his sobriety seriously means the absolute world to me. So proud of you,” wrote Leviss.
